While i was together with my friends from the trek we stayed at the Kathmandu Guesthouse. Later I moved to the Century Lodge in Freak Street. Both still exist and in the year 2000 I stayed at the KTM Guesthouse again. It is a middle class hotel now but still a very nice place. Other old institutions like the Utse Restaurant are still here too. But Thamel as a whole is extremely busy and noisy now. All tourist facilities are concentrated here. Freak Street is looking dreary now if you compare it to the seventies.
