Orphanages in Mine Thouk

In Mine Thouk (spoken something like 'Min Tao') on the eastern side of Lake Inle, around 10km south of Nyaung Shwe, there are two orphanages, one for boys and one for girls.
I visited them for the first time in 2003 and have returned every time I came to Inle Lake since then. I was very impressed by the work that the local helpers around U Tet Tun, the headmaster, are doing there. They give a home to more than hundred children now, financed by donations of local people and tourists.

You can go there by boat or by bicycle.
If you do a day trek from Nyaung Shwe you will probably end your trip in this village and pass the buildings on your way to the jetty. Ask your guide to take you there and pay them a visit.

You will not be asked for money, but if you want to make a donation, it will be appreciated.

Please give your donation to U Tet Tun, the headmaster of the orphanages. He can usually be found at the orphanage in the afternoon. If he is not there, you can ask at the Four Sisters restaurant in Nyaung Shwe where you can find him.

If you want to know more about the orphanages and how you can help them, visit the Website of the 'Care for Children' foundation from the Netherlands.
